Charles has been tremendously helpful in my acting journey, not only by guiding me through the craft with effective and engaging techniques, but also by helping me unlock a new sense of confidence in myself. I directed Charles as the lead in a feature film. This was a 13 day shoot, independently produced, shot on location, sometimes on the fly and featuring a real rave. Charles adapted his performance to each environment with a fearlessness that all great actors must possess.

As a leading man, Charles attracts the camera. His command of the close up is astonishing. He engages and emotes effortlessly. I’ve never shot so many close ups before. Charles’ performance is naturalistic with extremes. He can switch on the darkness, but there’s also romance. Collaboration was key. Charles and I discussed backstory. Workshopped and rehearsed. There was some improvisation, developed over time. This was the last scene we shot- in a park, at night. It was freezing cold. It’s an eight page scene, shot almost entirely in close up. Charles’ breath is real. Fearlessness.
