About Zahra
I am a law graduate from the University of Oxford and I am en-route to becoming a commercial solicitor at a top-tier U.S. law firm.
However, the start of my academic journey is sitting the 11+ myself, ten years ago. I like to use my career aspirations and my own examination experience to not only academically help my students, but inspire them to work hard and enjoy learning!
Beyond my studies and career, I really enjoy sport, singing and travelling. My favourite part of tutoring is connecting with my students, even about their hobbies. I like to incorporate my student's interests into the lesson where possible. The hardest part of tutoring is saying goodbye to my students once they achieve their goal.
Yet, seeing my students flourish and grow in confidence as they improve their English skills is the reason I tutor.

The typical length of a lesson is 60 minutes. I prefer to work with students on a long-term basis, seeing them between 1-3 times a week to ensure I can fully support their learning. If the student is preparing for an examination, like the 11+, I often suggest more intensive tutoring closer to the date of the test.
The first lesson often involves a conversation about what the student/their parent are looking to improve and a 30 minute assessment; this allows me to ascertain the student's strengths and weaknesses. Depending on the age and goals of the student, I will then suggest a long-term lesson plan.
An English lesson for GCSE students often involves reviewing past papers together from their exam board, practicing English-specific exam strategies, and completing skill-specific exercises depending on the student's progress.
For 11+ students, depending on the student's catchment area, I focus on both verbal reasoning, comprehension skills and creative writing. I will often use mock-exam and past papers to support the students learning, and set homework that can be reviewed either within or outside the lesson.
