About Emily
For me, skating feels like freedom, it's the most natural way to express myself. I've been skating for 22 years, including competing in artistic roller skating competitions around the country in galas and British Championships, and teaching skating since 2011. Since 2015 I've been skating outdoors in parks, streets and skateparks. I love to explore new places on skates and bring my artistic skills into weird and wonderful places. I also enjoy partner dancing on and off skates, and love to experiment with new ways to express myself

I'm currently only accepting adult students, thank you for understanding! Important! You must already own quad roller skates and appropriate safety gear (see below) before we start learning together. There are plenty of great resources online to help you choose the appropriate skates for you 🛼 I believe that the best skating happens when we are focused on what we feel like rather than how we look. We naturally improve when our attention is on our sense of balance, control, and alignment instead of on the next flashy trick we can perform. Of course, I love flashy tricks too! But my approach is about building a solid grasp of the fundamentals so that the tricks will feel like a natural progression and won't push you way outside the zones of comfort and safety! With gradual progression, you may just get a-ha moments where almost out of nowhere, you will find yourself able to do things you previously thought were impossible! I may be the teacher for you if: - You own quad 🛼skates and safety gear as appropriate for your level - You want to build confidence, or want to deepen your felt sense of balance and control on wheels - You may be a more experienced skater wanting to level up by adding artistic skills to your repertoire, but don’t know how to start. - You may have started trying some jumps, spins or turns but you want to feel more in control, or you might be struggling with certain moves over and over! I’m probably NOT right for you if: - You only skate/have inlines - quad skates only please! - You don’t yet own all the gear you need including both skates and safety gear (I recommend a minimum of knee pads and wrist guards for most skaters on flat ground, plus a helmet is essential for skateparks and streets) - You’re an intermediate+ skatepark/ramps skater looking to level up skatepark skills (there are much more appropriate teachers for you on this site!) - You’re specifically wanting to learn jam skating moves (again, there are much better teachers for you! But I do love to help jam skaters who want to add some artistic skills or techniques into the mix)

Perfect! So happy i have a new friend in Emily. Met at Hyde Park corner for a 2 hour lesson. Learnt so much stuff in that time I was exhausted. Emily genuinely wants you to do well. Will remember this day fondly for a long time to come I had such a nice time.
Great value for money- A really great lesson covering a lot of difficult new skills. You were a pleasure to teach. I loved how you dived right in, tried everything and weren't afraid to fall. You made a lot of progress in a short time. The thing to work on is paying attention to your body posture to help you balance and control your transitions. Emily is a very talented rollerskater who channels her passion into excellent teaching. She taught me artistic skating for a number of years when I was a complete beginner - I went from struggling to stand up to confidently jumping and spinning, and genuinely enjoyed every step of the way! Highly recommend.
Emily has been teaching me aspects of artistic skating for a number of years. Although I am an advanced skater in other disciplines, artistic is very different and Emily was able to explain and demonstrate things in a way that made sense to me. She is patient and also visibly gets joy out of skating and teaching which is not always the case with teachers!

I'm based in the Hackney/Tower Hamlets area and can teach in a local park subject to weather conditions with no additional fees.
We can discuss a fair travel fee if you have another location in mind. I may be able to help you find an appropriate indoor space to book if this is preferred, but you would cover the costs of hiring a space.
