About Emilia
I am passionate about languages. I have been teaching Portuguese in London since 1999, in language schools as well as private tuitions in companies or at the student's home. I have been preparing students who are going to Brazil for professional reasons and others who want to learn Portuguese because Brazil is their favourite holiday destination. Many of my students have friends or family members who are Brazilian and they want to be able to communicate with them in their native language. All of them end up fascinated by the diversity of the Brazilian culture. Most recently, I have been preparing students for the GCSE and A-Level exams.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have more than 35 years experience in teaching Performing Arts in Primary and Secondary Schools. Since moving to London in 1998, I have been teaching in Inclusive Learning (Furher Education). My last/present position was Lecturer in the Inclusive Learning Department at the Ealing, West London & Hammersmith College, working with learners within the Autism Spectrum, Down Syndrome and PMLD.
As a native Brazilian/Italian and qualified language teacher, I have been teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language in London, in Language schools such as Lingua Direta and BERLITZ, as well as in private tuition to individuals and companies since 1998. I have also been preparing students for the GCSE and A-Level Portuguese.
Before choosing to graduate in Performing Arts - Teaching Qualification - in Brazil, I had completed 3 years studying at the Faculty of Mathematics and Geology and at that time I started working as a Maths tutor, preparing students for the exams required to enter university. For that reason I feel confident teaching Maths. Since moving to London, where I have been teaching Dance and also carried on teaching Maths in private tuition, I have always felt very motivated to think out of the box while exploring the most effective teaching techniques for the different learning styles - specially the kinaesthetic - in order to provide a unique experience for every one of my students.

I am a native Brazilian qualified to teach Portuguese as a Foreign Language. I am also a qualified Performing Arts teacher and frequently use my expertise in that area to plan and deliver creative and motivating lessons. The methodology I use will be individually tailored in order to meet the student's needs, therefore it will depend on the reason why they are learning Portuguese: preparing for an exam, practicing Portuguese for professional reasons or just for entertainement.
Thank you for your interest in my service. I have more than 25 years teaching experience. I teach Portuguese, Yoga-based Body Awareness, Dance, Maths and English/ESOL to all ages, including Special Needs (Autism).

I have a CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING MODERN LANGUAGES (PORTUGUESE) TO ADULTS in London (2006), a CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH from the Cambridge University (since 2002), a CERTIFICATE FOR THE FOUNDATION COURSE IN PERFORMANCE STUDIES (DANCE PROGRAMME) from the Birkbeck College, University of London (2000) and a TEACHING QUALIFICATION IN PERFORMING ARTS from the Federal University of Rio Grande Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil (1992).
While studying at the Federal University of Rio Grande Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil I have also collaborated in the Research Project "THE USE OF CORPOREAL ENERGIES IN THE ACTING TRAINING", funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development / Ministry of Education and Culture (CNPq/MEC) - 1988-1992.
I attended the BA in Mathematics / BA in Geology during 3 years at the same University, before doing an internal transfer to Performing Arts in 1987.

- How much do you charge?
I usually charge £45 per hour/lesson for online teaching.
I offer the first 30 min lesson (a consultation and taster) - free of charge.
- Where do you teach?
At present moment I am only teaching online, usually on Zoom.
- When are you available?
I am now available during the day from Tuesday to Friday and at after school times on Tuesday to Thursday. Saturday lessons can also be arranged. I am usually available during 3-4 weeks during the Summer break.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach young people who are preparing for the Portuguese GCSE and A-Level and Maths GCSE exams; adults who are interested in learning Portuguese for professional and/or personal purposes.
I also teach English Language and Literature revision for the GCSE.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I have been successfully using Zoom and could also use FaceTime or Skype for tutoring online, if that’s the student’s preference.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Your lessons will be designed for you specifically, according to your preferences and learning style. You will have the opportunity to experience Portuguese language while listening, speaking, reading and writing, through a wide range of auditory and visual resources.
