About Iminah
I’m Iminah Kani, a flamenco guitarist and music teacher based in Victoria, BC. I began pursuing music full-time in 2016 and discovered flamenco guitar in 2018, when I began studying with local flamenco guitarist Gareth Owen. Since then, flamenco has become a central part of my life and artistic journey.
I’ve had the opportunity to perform at the Victoria Flamenco Festival and Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, and I’ve received scholarships from the Flamenco de la Isla Society and Flamenco Rosario. In 2024, I was honored to receive the inaugural Victor Kolstee Award, which supported my studies at the renowned Fundación Cristina Heeren in Sevilla, Spain. In 2025, I was awarded a half scholarship to continue my studies there for a full academic year.
After recently returning from Sevilla, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned from my studies. Whether you’re completely new to guitar or an experienced guitarist wanting to explore flamenco, I aim to make lessons engaging, supportive, and rooted in the traditions of this beautiful art form.

My approach to teaching flamenco guitar is personalized, encouraging, and rooted in the traditional foundations of flamenco. I adapt lessons to each student’s goals and experience, focusing on technique, rhythm, repertoire, and musical expression. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced guitarist exploring flamenco, I aim to make learning engaging, practical, and rewarding. I believe that developing a strong understanding of flamenco’s rhythms and structures, while also encouraging individuality and creativity, allows students to build confidence and truly connect with the music.
