About Xavier

Arranger and leader of steelbands at Calypsociation and at the Philharmonie de Paris for 20 years (trips to Trinidad and collaborations with Andy Narell). Teacher at DE of improvised music since 2008. Since 1988, I have been a classical percussionist (National Orchestras), variety (Juliette, Liane Foly, Indochine, Philippe Lavil ...) and jazz vibraphonist (Etienne M'Bappé, Rido Bayonne, Pierre-Jean Gaucher ...), then I approached the Cuban, Mandingo and West Indian traditions. I play piano, drums and have been using Logic Pro software since 1985 (did it exist at that time? Not sure! But the Atari computer and Pro 24 software yes ...)

About the lesson

My method? 1 - You are the one who suggests the songs you want to play and I chose one of these songs (best suited to the situation). 2 - Listening, we identify together the elements that will allow us to play it without having a score (Tonality, rhythm, harmonies, melody - all concepts explained as needed and practiced progressively). 3 - Depending on your instrument and your possibilities, we decide on a way to play the song. So we make an "arrangement". 4 - We practice exercises (accompanied by the necessary explanations) to end up being able to improvise on this piece (whether it is in relation to the harmonies, in relation to the melody or in relation to the rhythm). 4bis - We can consider making backing tracks to have fun and / or facilitate the business!
