My approach to teaching is to make the lessons fun and break things down simply for my students. I teach popular/contemporary music so my focus will be more on developing musicality, rhythm and "good ears", than learning how to read music. My lesson plans are based around the music you like and we will be learning solos or piano/guitar parts by ear and jam along to your favourite songs! Improvisation is also a big part of my teaching and something I will help you discover intuitively first before we start delving into the topic of music theory.

Perfect! Found approach to a beginner (me) v friendly. No rush, felt like a gentle intro in lesson. Have a fairly clear view of where I’m going and at a v comfortable pace. Many thanks!!
Perfect! The class with Nicholas is very organized and structured. He addresses details of technique while also teaching you practically using new hip songs.

Perfect! Awesome lesson with Nicholas! Really enjoyed his unique approach to playing by ear and learning how to improvise. He has an excellent setup also with a clear view of which notes he was playing.
- Excellent lesson with Lucy! We covered the basic chords on the piano and how to play chords by ear. She's very musical and we will get through the basics quickly. Lucy's setup for online lessons was also great (headphones, good view of the piano...).Nicholas's response :
Perfect! Nicholas is very inspiring and can find the key guidance for the student, very excellent
- Great student! Already has a good foundation in piano technique and is very musical. Will learn to play really well in no time!Nicholas's response :

Perfect! Super fun and a great sharer of knowledge. Thank you Nicholas. I am a complete beginner but we were playing chords to songs in no time. Nicholas has a very good approach, patient and puts you at ease. Highly recommended
- Had an excellent lesson with Douglas. We worked on simple chords and learnt a few songs. Good musicality already so I expect he will learn fast!Nicholas's response :
Perfect! I have found the lessons to be great! He is very friendly and certainly knows his stuff. Generally a great bit for how I learn.
Highly recommended!- Very good lesson with Daniel! He already has some basics down so we practiced major and minor chord inversions and simple pop accompaniment on a few songs. Also took a look at hand independence.Nicholas's response :
Perfect! Human / heuristic approach and finally I understand chords better after first lesson.
Perfect! Nicholas is a great teacher. I really like his approach of encouraging playing by ear and improvisation! I was impressed that he prepared for the lesson by listening to pieces of music my sons enjoyed and then during the lesson showed them how they could play along with the chords. Highly recommended!

I can really recommend lessons with Nicholas as he is great at making musical concepts simple for a beginner. He is also very fun to learn with! :)
I cannot recommend Nicholas more as a piano and music teacher! He is very passionate and enthusiastic teacher who is great at simplifying more difficult concepts and making lessons really fun. It was the first time I was taught music by ear and I think it’s a brilliant way to learn, especially if you want to jam with people.
Nicholas is not only an accomplished and highly experienced musician -he has that rare ability to teach 'patiently' throughout all levels too.
He has taken me from a complete musical 'novice' to now understand Music Theory and to start composing my own tracks on Logic Pro - Highly recommended !!!Nicholas is not only an accomplished and highly experienced musician -he has that rare ability to teach 'patiently' throughout all levels too.
He has taken me from a complete musical 'novice' to now understand Music Theory and to start composing my own tracks on Logic Pro - Highly recommended !!!My singing voice has always sounded and felt a bit strained. I struggled to reach the high notes and gain power in my voice, which often led to hoarseness. Now, after about 10 sessions with Nicholas, I feel much more relaxed when I sing, and I have gained more power and volume in my voice than I have ever had.
Nicholas is a great teacher. He manages to avoid all unnecessary complexity and explain the subject in a set of simple rules. I managed to improve my technique drastically in just a couple of months. In addition to this, Nicholas focuses as well on the songs I am struggling right now. Thus instead of singing Amazing Grace, as I did with the other teachers, we spend time usefully on the material I need right now.
