About Ted

"I never teach my pupils, I only provide the conditions in which they can learn" Albert Einstein.

Hello and Welcome to my page. I am happy that you stopped by. My name is Ted Lehman or Mr. L, and I am excited and flattered to share in your child's learning journey to be challenged, find their voice, and peer connection in an online classroom and in their community.

Learning should be about passion and guidance. I am a certified Special Education teacher in the United States who is passionate about bringing a rich, online space that is individualized to meet your child's unique needs. After having taught during virtual instruction, I know how to pace lessons and explain to students in different ways and examples to ensure understanding and success. I also know how to plan out and curtain specific learning goals for students as well to meet for their future plans. From coding to tutoring math and language arts, I have taught and know different tools that can help your child study more efficiently and accurately.

I have been playing violin for 20 years now and I use a lot of my special education background to have a personalized learning experience for children. From tuning to memorization work, I am able to teach your child the fundamental skills to intermediate skills. I want to keep your child engaged with learning specific violin skills like playing a scale through a game or other passage. I want your child to have the same love of music that I have on a daily basis.

In this ongoing individualized class, students will focus on learning to read and spell using scientifically proven phonics techniques to help fill in reading gaps and help them continue to master skills and develop confidence. During the first session, I will assess your student’s current reading, spelling, and phonological skills in order to develop a curriculum plan for their specific needs. Sessions will meet students where they are, from learning letter sounds to forming complex multisyllabic words and anywhere in between. Build your child’s confidence and foster a love of reading!

Each ongoing lesson will include multi-sensory activities, games, and other techniques supported by the Science of Reading and will follow a consistent routine, including some or all of the following lesson parts:

1. Phonological warm-up: identify, break apart, and change sounds in heard words.
2. Grapheme warm-up: review sounds of letters and groups of letters (digraphs, vowel teams, etc).
3. Focus concept: introduce or review focus concept for the lesson.
4. Heart words: introduce and review high frequency words using “heart words” strategy.
5. Segmenting and blending activities: break apart and sound out new words.
6. Word building activities: form words using taught letters and groups of letters.
7. Dictation activities: write dictated words and sentences.
8. Decoding activities: read texts that include taught word and sound patterns and “heart words.”
9. Comprehension activities focusing around decodable texts from the skills taught in lessons

**There may be additional resources shared with families that include, but not limited to online games and other websites focused on the science of reading. I will guide students to what things that I will share with them and make sure parents are aware as well. **
