• Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?

  Yes, I was born and raised in Madrid, so Spanish is my native language. It has always been part of my identity, not just a tool for communication. Over time, I’ve become even more passionate about sharing it with others, especially when I see how it opens up new perspectives and connections.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language’s culture?

  One emblematic figure in Spanish culture is Pedro Almodóvar, the film director. His movies reflect the richness, intensity, and diversity of the Spanish language and way of life — full of emotion, colour, humour, and depth.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?

  I love the expression “¡No pasa nada!”, which means something like “It’s all good” or “Don’t worry about it.” It perfectly captures the relaxed, understanding attitude many Spanish speakers have towards life and small daily problems.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and it connects millions of people across different continents. Teaching it allows me to share not only the language but also the warmth and richness of our culture. It’s a bridge to connect with others more deeply.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  One common challenge is mastering verb conjugations and tenses, which can be overwhelming at first. What really helps is learning them through context and repetition — using stories, songs, real-life situations, and lots of speaking practice in a relaxed setting.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  I remember a classmate who was always quiet in Spanish class — until one day, during a role play activity, she suddenly spoke fluently with a perfect accent. The whole class was shocked! It taught me that everyone has their own rhythm, and that confidence sometimes appears when you least expect it.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Living in Australia has allowed me to see how Spanish is perceived and taught abroad. It’s also helped me adapt my teaching to different learning styles and cultural expectations. That global perspective has made me a better communicator and teacher.
