About Katie Saoidhbh

I used to be very anxious, I was very nervous and 100% of the time I was presuming everything was going to go wrong. My headspace was so negative all the time and it was incredibly busy. I couldn't comprehend the idea of quiet. How could it be quiet with all of these thoughts?? I have now been practicing mindfulness and meditation for over 10 years and I still remember that first class that I went to. I couldn't believe how much of a difference this one class made to my head. For the first time ever, my mind didn't feel like it was going going going all the time. Mindfulness has changed my life in those 10 years and for 8 of those years I have been teaching children, adults, families and anyone interested in mindfulness. Meditation and mindfulness are words that are used interchangeably a lot of the time and for me, I like to think that meditation is when we sit still and mindfulness is when we can be present with what we are doing in that moment and during my family classes, what we might be doing is pretending we are an octopus and moving around the room like an octopus might. Mindfulness doesn't need to be serious and I love working with children and their parents, giving them a chance to be silly and have fun together while learning new, life-changing skills. I used to think that if I had found mindfulness when I was younger, my life would have looked very different which is why children were one of the first groups of people I wanted to work with when I started teaching mindfulness and now, I absolutely love how much fun I get to have when I teach them!

You will walk away from this class with useful, practical ways to manage stress and worry. My Mindfulness classes are very different depending on the age of the participants. Family classes will include a lot of fun games and shaking out your body. There will be some movement and deep breathing, including animal breathing and rollercoaster breathing. We will do gentle massage on ourselves and on each other (with permission) and the class will finish with either some mindful coloring or a relaxing meditation. If the class is just for you or you and other adults, we will do some mindful movement practices, try different techniques of meditation, do deep breathing and releasing and you will walk away from the class feeling relaxed and calm. After any class, you will have some simple ideas of things you can use for the next time you are feeling anxious or stressed and your children will have learned that mindfulness, relaxation and being quiet is and can be fun!
