About Skylar
I am a passionate violin instructor with eight years of teaching experience and a Licentiate of Music in Violin. My approach blends classical tradition with creative expression, helping students develop both technical skill and musical artistry. I focus on essential techniques such as bowing, vibrato, phrasing, and interpretation to bring music to life across a range of styles. Lessons are designed to be engaging, personalized, and suited to each student’s goals. I provide guidance for ABRSM and Trinity exams, ensuring thorough preparation and confidence in performance. Orchestral coaching is also a key part of my teaching, helping students navigate ensemble playing and collaborative music-making. I emphasize listening, musicality, and emotional connection, encouraging students to express themselves fully through their instrument. Technical mastery is balanced with creativity, making learning enjoyable and meaningful. My teaching style supports steady progress while fostering a lifelong love for the violin. My teaching approach for violin focuses on helping students play with confidence, skill, and emotional depth. I emphasize technique-building to ensure solid posture, finger placement, and bow control. Ear training is integrated into lessons so students can recognize pitch, intervals, and musical phrasing. I guide learners in expressing emotions through music, helping them connect deeply with each piece. Performance confidence is developed through regular practice, mock performances, and constructive feedback. I provide personalized instruction tailored to each student’s goals, musical interests, and pace. Sight-reading, rhythm exercises, and scale practice are incorporated to strengthen overall musicianship. I use a combination of classical repertoire, contemporary pieces, and ensemble work to make lessons engaging and practical. Students are encouraged to explore creativity while mastering technical skills. I focus on building resilience and self-assurance in performance settings. Each session is structured but flexible, ensuring steady growth and enjoyment. My goal is to support students in excelling on the violin while fostering a lifelong love for music.
