Come as you are- Let’s talk (and play) violin!
Whether you are a day one beginner, auditioning for youth orchestra, preparing an advanced audition, are gifting this violin lesson(s) to someone in your life who will enjoy the opportunity for violin class, or are an adult returning to a childhood instrument, I am here to help you learn.
My students range from age four to sixties, and have all kinds of interests and learning styles and needs. Some student accomplishments include but are not limited to: middle and high school placements in All State and local youth orchestras, concerto competition wins and subsequent soloist experience, and acceptance to prestigious conservatories with scholarship and summer intensive programs.
Many have arrived as young beginners with no prior music education and now enjoy writing their own songs to play on the violin. Others have courageously picked up their dusty violin from childhood and rediscovered a fulfilling hobby and creative outlet. Some are off to college with fantastic music scholarships, whether to study music or not. Everyone has their own voice to develop, musical and creative path to forge, and I am here to help my students do so in the style that suits them uniquely.
In my twelve years of teaching, I have been on faculty at the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, The People’s Music School, an OCPS All County High School Violinists Clinician in addition to maintaining my private studio. I took pedagogy classes with the legendary Mimi Zweig and Dr. Brenda Brenner while at Bloomington, Indiana. I have had the opportunity to learn from many greats in my studies, and am eager to share all that I have learned from them as well as what I have learned from each of my dozens of unique students over the years.
Other than developing and sharpening techniques, I emphasize in my teaching the agency of each student to become their own best teacher in their practice time, which involves curating plans for realizing specific goals, and practicing how to practice! Additionally, fostering discipline, curiosity, critical (and appreciative) listening, creativity in expression, and the confidence and empathy we gain from learning violin.
All lessons especially for beginners also include time spent on music theory/ literacy/ ear training/ basic improv.
Lots of experience with many genres, so the musical focus or exploration can be as versatile or specific as you like.
First lesson is a free 30 minute consult/ meeting/ trial lesson.
Lessons are hosted exclusively at my home studio located in Silver Spring, MD, or online via webcam. This central location offers access for students in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Rockville, North Bethesda, Kensington, and Upper Washington D.C as well as Gaithersburg, College Park, and Columbia, MD.

It is my pleasure to recommend Rebecca Edge as a violin teacher. I have known her for nearly her entire life, and I can confidently say that she is one of the finest musician-educators I know.
Our families have been connected through music for decades. Rebecca and I both grew up in Central Florida, where our mothers were professional violinists who performed together in the local orchestra. I've watched her grow up immersed in an environment where music was not simply an activity but a way of life. From an early age, she demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication, and maturity as a violinist.
Rebecca studied with some of Central Florida's most respected violin teachers. She distinguished herself as a leader in both her school and youth orchestras - going on to attend summer programs, such as Tanglewood and graduate from Jacobs School of Music. Since then, she has built her career performing with orchestras throughout the United States while maintaining a deep commitment to teaching.
As the owner of a violin shop in Florida, I have had the unique opportunity to witness the results of her teaching firsthand. Her students have come through my shop and I have heard them perform in recitals over the years. I have been impressed by the level of technical foundation, musical sensitivity, and confidence they display.
Her students clearly respect and adore her, and her colleagues hold her in equally high regard. Any student or music program would be fortunate to have her and I am confident she will make a meaningful contribution to any musical community.Rebecca is super nice and creates a warm and supportive environment for students
At the age of 5, my daughter started violin lessons with Rebecca. Rebecca was a great teacher, very patient and kind. It is clear how much she loves what she does, and she has a special way of instilling this love for the violin in the kids too. We are so grateful for her.
I found Rebecca to teach my son while she was in Bloomington, Indiana. Knowing Rebecca is as rich an experience as having her for a teacher. Her love of the violin and music is contagious.
I met Rebecca through another violinist when she moved to Chicago. She is very focused on doing the right techniques along with creating a good sound. She is a very hard worker and I highly recommend her, especially for a intermediate / advanced amateur violinist.
I've been playing violin since I was in 4th grade and in highschool I began taking lessons from Rebecca. During the period of time where I was seeing Rebecca weekly I made the most improvement of my entire violin career. She not only had captivating lessons and great personability, she also ignited a new passion for violin within myself. I'd recommend her to anyone who is seeking private lessons for violin, i believe that she knows exactly what you need to become a better player.
Rebecca is an absolutely amazing teacher, her attention to detail and personal touch is incomparable, I came so far in my violin skills in the short time that I was under her instruction, I could not recommend her more to someone looking to learn the violin or to improve their skills on the instrument.
There are not enough words to describe what an amazing teacher Rebecca is. She has been my teacher and mentor for the past four years, and during that time I have learned not only how to improve my playing, but also how to approach music with better understanding and appreciate the true essence of performing. Her guidance has helped me grow tremendously as both a violinist and a musician. Every lesson with Rebecca is an incredibly positive and encouraging experience. She creates an environment where I feel motivated to challenge myself, and I always leave inspired to keep improving and excited for my next lesson. What I appreciate most about her teaching is the kindness and patience she shows not only to me but to all of her students. Her genuine passion for both teaching and music is apparent in every lesson, and I couldn't recommend her more highly.
I highly recommend Rebecca as a violin teacher. She taught my son for several years, and we couldn't have asked for a better teacher. Rebecca is incredibly talented, warm, patient, and encouraging. She has a wonderful ability to make students feel comfortable while inspiring them to do their best and continue improving.
My son genuinely looked forward to every lesson, which speaks volumes about the positive and engaging learning environment Rebecca created. She made learning enjoyable, kept him motivated, and helped him make wonderful progress over the years. Her encouragement and positive attitude helped build his confidence and made him excited to continue learning.
We are very grateful for everything Rebecca taught him and for the positive impact she had on his confidence and development. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a talented, supportive, and inspiring violin teacher.View more recommendations
