About Zuhal
I’m currently studying BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences at the University of Liverpool, having achieved an A in A-level Biology and a Grade 8 in GCSE Biology.
My experience as a student is a big part of why I want to teach. I struggled quite a lot with studying effectively. I would revise for long hours but often wasn’t sure whether I was actually revising in the right way, and my assessment results could go up and down considerably. I also found exams particularly difficult and would get anxious when doing them. I disliked past papers and, despite being regularly set them for homework, I often struggled to complete them properly.
Despite this, I genuinely loved Biology. I had some really great teachers who made the subject enjoyable and, more importantly, took the time to understand where I personally needed help. They didn’t simply teach me the content — they helped me understand how to learn it, how to approach questions and how to improve when something wasn’t working.
A lot of the way I now approach studying and teaching comes from those experiences. The strategies I use with students — breaking processes down visually, modelling how to approach questions, gradually moving from guided to independent practice, using regular assessments to identify weaknesses and adapting revision techniques to the individual — are heavily influenced by the teachers who taught me and the way they supported me.
Over time, I became much better at studying effectively and more confident in my ability to tackle Biology and exams. I developed my own structured approach based around understanding, active recall, targeted exam practice and regular assessment.
I want to tutor because I know what it feels like to enjoy a subject but still struggle to perform as well as you want to. I want to give students some of the support that my own teachers gave me: not just teaching them Biology, but helping them figure out how they learn best and giving them the confidence and tools to become independent learners.
And ultimately, I want my students to experience that moment when a difficult biological process finally clicks — because I know how satisfying that feeling is.

My lessons are personalised, assessment-led and focused on genuine understanding and exam performance. I don’t believe every student should be taught in the same way, so I first identify what is actually holding a student back before deciding how to structure the lesson.
For students who are struggling with content, I use clear explanations, diagrams and visual representations to break down difficult biological processes. I regularly check understanding through questioning and retrieval, then gradually move from guided practice to independent work.
For students who understand the content but struggle with exams, I focus on exam technique and application. I model questions while explaining my thought process, then work through similar questions with the student before having them attempt questions independently. This can include data analysis, practical questions, longer-mark questions and understanding how to use precise biological terminology effectively.
I also help students develop effective revision techniques. Having developed my own structured approach to studying Biology, I can help students move beyond simply rereading notes and instead use active recall, targeted practice and regular assessment. Where appropriate, I use short assessments and past-paper questions to track progress and identify specific areas that need further work.
A typical 1-hour lesson will usually include a combination of teaching, questioning, guided practice and independent application, with the exact structure adapted to the student’s needs. Homework is personalised and may include targeted exam questions, a past paper, flashcards or revision activities.
My aim is not simply to help students get through their next test, but to help them understand Biology, become more independent learners and develop the skills to approach unfamiliar exam questions with confidence.
