I am a patient, compassionate and caring individual, who can appreciate the stress and frustration of GCSE examinations. I can empathise with students who take a while to get things and students who race ahead and need a challenge. Therefore, I can tutor students of all abilities and my friendly nature means enables to build a rapport with my tutees. In order to understand the student, I am tutoring, all tutees must fill out a questionnaire that: lists their strengths, problem areas and their current revision methods. This acts a diagnostic test from which I can tailor my teaching methods to best suit tutees. In school all students are forced to learn the same way, and its scientifically impossible to expect everyone to retain information through one style of teaching. Hence, my teaching style is very individual. As a general guide, I base each topic on the specification for the subject. For each topic I will go through content, ensuring the tutee understands it in as much depth as possible. I will achieve this by using lots of displaying the information in many ways (notes, videos, pictures, songs, research and independent learning). At the end of each subtopic we will go through exemplar questions and do a series of practise questions, I will then consolidate learning through a mini test, to identify any weak areas.

Sophie is a really friendly caring individual and really helped me with my GCSEs. I was really struggling with maths but she always took the time to sit and explain it to me, even if she had to explain 10 times she was so patient. That’s what made her such a good tutor, she didn’t make me feel like I was dumb, she was super motivating and encouraging. I really recommend her!
