About Rebecca
I love literature and writing! I graduated from Clemson University in 2012 with a B.A. in English and quickly found a job teaching 6th grade Language Arts. It was the perfect fit; I took so much joy in watching my students grow in their writing and reading abilities.
I continued to teach over the next eight years, working with students ranging from 6th-12th grades. I have taught honors classes as well as classes for struggling writers and readers, and I enjoyed them all!
I am married and have two sons; the youngest was born in 2020, and I decided to stay home with him for the next few years. Now that he is old enough to start preschool, I am thrilled to have the time to look for ways to teach again!

I believe in the "I do, we do, you do" teaching approach. When it comes to writing essays or analyzing literature, I model how to do it first, then I do it with my student, and then I give my student the reins to try it on their own as I guide and provide support. The repetition of this scaffolded technique builds understanding and confidence in my students, which is the goal!
I enjoy working with middle and high school students. My experience is in this age range, and I get excited to see so many of them who may not naturally enjoy reading and writing have their "aha!" moment.
