About Brent
I did my initial training in Los Angeles, San Diego and Mendocino California. But I was always more into fashion and don’t like paparazzi, so I quickly transitioned to working overseas. During those years I had a lot of success and a fair bit of failure, but eventually became a solid mid-tier fashion shooter, doing campaign work for international clothing brands and, occasionally, lucking into emerging brands that took off. My commercial fashion work has been widely published, including in British and Italian Vogue.
But at about the same time as I was getting frustrated by air travel, I met a lovely woman from Atlantic Canada. I took the opportunity to settle for good in lovely Halifax, Nova Scotia and opened the largest stills studio in Eastern Canada.
I focused on portrait and wedding photography. In some ways it felt like starting over butit’s easy to learn what you love, and since then I have won more than a dozen national awards in wedding and portrait photography, including being named the Wedding Portrait Photographer of the Year in Atlantic Canada by the Professional Photographers of Canada.
While in Halifax I focused on sharing my knowledge and developing new photographers, running multiple workshops, and was invited to speak at several workshops around Canada.
Then Covid hit and I became a hermit. I’ve popped back out in the past year, begun shooting weddings and commercial work, but the emergence of sites like this during the pandemic allow me to work with people from around the world. I love that!
I’ll conclude by mentioning that my not-for-pay photo passions are landscape and wildlife photography - so I can answer a fair bit about those topics too. I’ve shot from the North Coast of Alaska to Antarctica. And from Kyoto Japan to Ireland, and other locals such as Iceland, Scotland, Argentina, China… the list is six continents long… only Australia remains… so hey, if you’re reading from there, fly me out and give me a room, and I’ll teach you for a week!

Come with your specific questions or your upcoming challenges and I will share my knowledge and skill with you about that specific topic, and very likely have some cool hacks or shortcuts to help you get amazing photos without throwing your wallet at new gear.
