About Bella
In my saxophone teaching practice, I aim to create a nurturing environment where students feel encouraged to develop both technical mastery and their own unique musical voice. Foundational skills—breath support, embouchure, finger agility, posture, articulation, and tone—are the cornerstones of every lesson, as they enable expressive and sustainable playing. I pay special attention to intonation and phrasing to help students cultivate a polished, emotive sound. Improvisation is a vital part of the curriculum, introduced through ear training, scale work, and creative exercises that foster musical intuition and confidence. I integrate music theory seamlessly, relating concepts directly to repertoire and improvisation, so students gain a deep understanding of how music works. Repertoire choices are tailored to each student’s tastes and goals, spanning jazz, blues, popular music, and classical styles, ensuring lessons remain relevant and motivating. Together, we set achievable goals and develop consistent practice habits that promote steady growth. I also use technology like recording tools and backing tracks to aid practice and self-assessment. A highlight of my teaching journey was helping a student progress from hesitant beginner to confident performer capable of improvising fluently. I am committed to helping saxophonists grow into expressive, versatile musicians who find joy and fulfillment in their playing.

I believe that effective saxophone teaching involves fostering a dynamic learning environment where technique, theory, and creativity intersect to produce confident, expressive musicians.
I start by ensuring students develop essential skills such as proper posture, breath control, embouchure strength, finger accuracy, clean articulation, tonal consistency, and rhythmic steadiness. These technical pillars provide the foundation for healthy playing and long-term musical growth. Recognizing that each student is unique, I customize lessons to align with their musical preferences—whether jazz, classical, blues, or contemporary—and personal aspirations, keeping learning relevant and motivating. Music theory and ear training are integrated within the practical context of playing, supporting improvisation and sight-reading abilities.
I utilize modern technology, including recording tools, metronomes, tuners, and backing tracks, to enhance practice efficiency and provide immediate feedback. Performance readiness is a key component of my teaching; I help students prepare for recitals, auditions, and ensemble performances by building stage presence and self-confidence while addressing performance anxiety.
A memorable teaching experience involved working with a student who initially struggled with breath support; through focused exercises and supportive encouragement, they developed a rich tone and strong stage presence, ultimately delivering an inspiring recital performance. My goal is to guide saxophonists not just to technical proficiency, but to artistic maturity, helping them find and share their authentic musical voice.
