About Sagar
I have a master's degree in industrial design and have over 5 years of experience working as a product design consultant for various consumer tech companies. My focus has always been on strategic and user-centered design to drive business value.
In terms of accounting, I have an undergraduate minor in finance. And for the past 3 years I have been helping early stage startups with financial modeling, cost analysis, pricing strategies and related areas to complement my design background. This cross-disciplinary experience between design and business is what I'm excited to teach you all about in this class.
My approach is very hands-on. We will learn core concepts for both domains - design thinking, prototyping, budgeting, cost allocation etc. - but always apply them through group projects, business case studies and dynamic activities. I want us to work together on practical real world problems across product design and management accounting. This will help cement the knowledge while also building valuable skills

Product Design Tutoring:
- Focus on the design thinking process - empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test. Walk through real world product design cases using this framework.
- Teach core principles of design - user centeredness, simplicity, accessibility etc. Use examples of well designed products to illustrate.
- Work through the product development lifecycle with students identifying opportunities, requirements gathering, concept generation, detailed design, testing, refinement etc.
- Use hands-on activities like sketching, prototyping, user testing to make it applied and engaging. Guide students through simulations.
Management Accounting Tutoring:
- Explain key concepts like cost-volume-profit analysis, budgeting, cost allocation and product costing using simplified examples and scenarios
- Use lots of real world cases and examples to make the concepts tangible
- Employ a strategic focus examining how accounting information is used for decision making
- Use group discussions around business situations and ask students to apply management accounting tools
- Assign hands-on exercises for developing budgets and performance reports for simulated or real businesses
- Encourage developing core financial analysis skills through practice with writing and interpreting management reports
