Find out more about Houda

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Arabic fluently because it is my first language. Growing up in Morocco, I was immersed in the language and learned it in depth through school and everyday life. The foundation I received in my education, combined with my cultural background, has helped me develop a strong grasp of Arabic.
  • Can you name a living, historical, or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

One historical figure I find inspiring is Ibn Battuta, the great Moroccan traveler and scholar. He not only represented the richness of Arab culture but also connected with different civilizations, spreading knowledge and understanding.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition, or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

One phrase I love in Arabic is "الحمد لله" (Alhamdulillah), which means "Praise be to God." It is used often in daily life to express gratitude, no matter the situation. This phrase reflects the deep spiritual and positive mindset embedded in the Arabic culture.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Arabic matters to me because it connects me to my roots and culture. It allows me to express my identity and share the beauty of the language with others. Teaching Arabic gives me the opportunity to help others experience its richness and gain a deeper understanding of Arab culture.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what can help the process of learning?

One of the main challenges in learning Arabic is mastering its complex grammar and sounds, especially for those unfamiliar with the script. However, consistent practice, patience, and a good tutor can make the process much easier. Breaking down difficult concepts and focusing on real-life conversations can help students progress faster.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

In school, we had a competition to recite classical Arabic poetry, and I remember how nervous I was. However, it pushed me to deepen my understanding of the language and appreciate the beauty of Arabic literature. That experience shaped my love for teaching and inspired me to share the richness of the language with others.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Traveling within Morocco, especially to different regions with their unique dialects, helped me appreciate the diversity within the Arabic language. It also made me realize the importance of teaching both Modern Standard Arabic and regional dialects to my students, depending on their needs and goals.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

What makes me a Superprof in Arabic is my deep understanding of the language, culture, and history as a native speaker. I am passionate about teaching Arabic in a way that is engaging, fun, and tailored to each student's level and learning style. Having taught Arabic for years, I know how to simplify difficult concepts and make learning enjoyable. Additionally, being Moroccan gives me a unique perspective on both Modern Standard Arabic and the Moroccan dialect, which allows me to cater to a wide range of students from different backgrounds. My goal is to help my students not only speak Arabic fluently but also appreciate the cultural context that comes with it.
