About Russell
I graduated with my Master's of Science in Ecology from San Diego State University this summer. I am currently working part-time as a researcher at the Coastal Marine Institute and Laboratory for SDSU. I have more than 5 years of teaching experience from tutoring and teaching private music lessons in my undergraduate career to substitute teaching and working as a teaching assistant in my master's program. In addition, I have 10 years in management experience and leadership roles in my professional career. I truly believe that there is no such thing as an unsolvable problem, and my goal is to instill that confidence in my students as well.

I specialize in taking large, complex concepts and breaking them down into small, digestible chunks. I draw from common knowledge, pop culture, and use fun, memorable analogies to reinforce difficult material. I have experience as a substitute teacher as well as working as a TA in my graduate studies.
I can work with any age group from elementary school - undergraduates taking core curriculum.
When I devise a lesson plan, I will first assess current course load, reading the syllabus from each class, etc. Then, we will have an honest conversation about the student's strengths and weaknesses. We will then play in strengths and work on areas of improvement. I like to stay ahead of the class schedule, ie students should be reading the text book ahead of the first day of class so that each lecture in school is already a review of previously read material. I will be there as a guide to handle the complexities and reinforce difficult concepts.
