About Sophia
Hello! I am your friendly guitar mentor, bringing 5 years of soul-driven teaching experience to students ranging from young beginners to college jazz band freshmen. Earning my Bachelor of Arts in Commercial String Performance from Macalester College taught me that true guitar mastery comes from connecting your ear, your hands, and your heart. I am known as a Good and Best Tutor who helped students to achieve their goals quickly because I prioritize getting you to play real, recognizable songs within the very first week to keep your motivation incredibly high! I was recently honored with the Twin Cities Harmony Strings Educator Medal for my highly compassionate teaching style. To recharge my own creative spirit, my hobbies are baking artisan pastries and restoring antique music boxes. Let me bring that same grounded, deeply patient, and detail-oriented energy to our guitar lessons!

My online live lessons are intimately built around the specific genres that light a fire in your heart, hosted flawlessly on Zoom or Teams. Whether you want to explore the rhythmic storytelling of Acoustic fingerpicking, the electrifying energy of an Electric guitar solo, or the soulful, complex depths of Blues, Jazz, and Rock, we will absolutely make it happen. Just tell me your favorite songs beforehand! I will teach you the way you want to understand it! To make sure you master the fretboard, I provide comprehensive guidance on practice problems, homework, assignments, and exam preparation. I promise to be the most friendly teacher you've ever had; if a barre chord hurts your fingers or a strumming pattern feels impossible, we will clear that doubt with simple, painless technique adjustments.
