About Ellie
I’ve been tutoring math since I was in high school myself, and all these years later, my favorite moment is still the same: when a student who was completely confused suddenly says, “Ohhh! I get it!”
I love figuring out exactly where a student got lost and finding the explanation that makes everything click. Sometimes that means drawing a picture, sometimes it means backing up a few steps, and sometimes it means coming up with a memorable analogy that makes a complicated idea suddenly feel simple.
Over the years, I’ve worked with countless students one-on-one, including more than 800 hours of private tutoring through an online tutoring platform alone. I also became a public school math teacher in Los Angeles, where I taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and other middle and high school math courses. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor's degree in Education, and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts.
My tutoring style is part math coach, part confidence-builder. My goal is to help students stop feeling like math is a form of punishment and start feeling like it’s something they can actually understand and work with.
We build intuition, stack skills like tools in a toolbox, and figure out how your brain makes sense of problems—not just the textbook version.
I also take “no question is a dumb question” very seriously. Tutoring is the perfect place to ask all the questions you might not feel comfortable asking in a classroom. We can slow things down, untangle confusing concepts, fill in missing pieces, and rebuild confidence from the ground up.
I’m a big believer that math sticks better when it has a little personality. I use memory tricks, visual models, real-life examples, and memorable explanations—including my “wedding cake method”—to make abstract concepts easier to understand and remember.
If my first explanation doesn’t make sense, that’s okay. I’ll find another way to explain it.
If math has left you thinking, “Maybe I’m just not a math person,” I’d love the chance to help change your mind.

Bring your homework, class notes, study guide, upcoming test—or simply tell me what’s giving you trouble. We’ll start there.
We’ll identify where things stopped making sense, break the material into manageable pieces, and work through it together. I’ll help you understand the why behind the math rather than simply memorizing steps.
Lessons can focus on Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, middle school math, homework help, test preparation, catching up, or strengthening foundational skills.
You don’t need to know exactly what you need help with before you arrive. We’ll figure it out together.

Going into junior year of high school, our daughter was facing a major challenge having to take Algebra 2. We were lucky, however, to find Ellie, an experienced tutor who knows how to make math less intimidating. Ellie checks all the boxes for us: she's reliable and patient. And she knows how to pace her teaching to let our daughter catch her breath and let the lessons sink in. With Ellie's help, our daughter is now better prepared and more confident in math than she has ever been before.
Ellie is a great and caring teacher. She finds creative and fun ways to engage with her students. She helps them grow in confidence and understanding.
