About Niamh
I am an Oxford University graduate in MSc Mathematical and Theoretical Physics. I finished first in my year in my undergraduate degree of BSc Mathematics and Physics at Bristol University, winning awards for my research and exam results. I currently research in Theoretical physics at Cambridge University. As a joint honors graduate I have a unique perspective on the subjects (Maths and Physics), and importantly how they compliment one another. This allows me to equip my students with a new viewpoint and approach to problem solving.
I have been tutoring both mathematics and physics at primary level, GCSE level and A-level for over five years, with many of my students exceeding grade expectations. I have also tutored Leaving Certificate (Irish A-level equivalent) and Junior Certificate (GCSE equivalent) students. As a result, I have experience in teaching a variety of mathematical techniques for similar problems. This allows me to find the most effective learning method for each individual student.

I believe in the importance of giving students context to their work. When learning mathematics, having an understanding of the physical significance of the problems facilitates greater comprehension and, importantly, helps students to memorise the methods used. As a joint honours student, I found that the wider context of my degree gave me a much greater understanding and appreciation of each subject, which I strive to pass on to my students.
In my experience, the practicality of the mathematical approach is missing from physics education. As a science which is expressed through mathematics, it is vitally important to equip students with problem solving, methodical tools and a conceptual understanding of the subject.
I have a genuine love and fascination for the science. My curiosity never wavers and I am always learning more. I believe my passion for the subjects helps me to impart knowledge and spark interest in my students. As someone who has aspirations to continue my research and teach at a university level, I particularly enjoy teaching and exploring the various ways in which individual students grasp the subject.
