About John
I am qualified in maths and physics to degree level, but trained as a computer programmer. I was drawn to maths and physics, because I have a keen interest in astronomy and astrophysics.
While working as a computer programmer in the 1990s, I realised that I was letting my passion for science and maths go by the wayside and my qualifications in this subject go to waste. Becoming a private tutor was my solution to this and a way to share this passion. I now share my time between freelancing as a programmer and working as a tutor.
Seeing a student’s understanding and confidence develop and knowing I am helping them achieve this, is extremely satisfying: to see the moment of realisation, when a student understands a concept they have been struggling with, or to see a student go from bottom to top of his class in 3 – 4 months.
I now only teach online, but have taught from student’s homes, from my home and at a Saturday school.
I am fully conversant with all GCSE and A-level, Maths and physics syllabuses.

I will first clear up any misunderstanding you know you have.
Then either:
practice problems on topics you have covered, until you are proficient at dealing with them,
work to identify misconceptions you may not know you have,
get ahead on parts of the course you have not covered yet, at your institution.
Stumped on an exam question? When you cannot see how to begin to answer a question, asking yourself a few questions in relation to the problem can often help you. I can teach you to ask the right questions.
