About JiaYi
I’m Jocelyn, a Monash University student studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education (Honors) and Bachelor of Science, with a focus on Mathematics. My goal is to become a secondary Mathematics teacher, and I genuinely enjoy helping students feel more confident and comfortable with maths.
I have gained classroom experience through my teaching placement at Brighton Secondary College, where I worked with secondary students with different abilities and learning needs. I also have previous one-to-one tutoring experience, which has helped me develop a patient, encouraging and adaptable approach to teaching.
Having studied Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics myself, I understand that maths can sometimes feel overwhelming. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and saying “I don’t understand” without feeling embarrassed. My aim is not only to help students improve their results, but also to help them understand why the maths works and gradually become more confident and independent learners.
I am friendly, patient and approachable, and I would love to support you in reaching your mathematics goals at your own pace.

I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my lessons to each student’s level, goals and learning style. I focus on explaining maths step by step in a clear and simple way, rather than simply giving students the answer. I encourage students to ask questions, identify where they are struggling, and gradually develop the confidence to solve problems independently.
A typical lesson is around 60 minutes and can include reviewing schoolwork, explaining difficult concepts, working through examples together, practicing questions independently, and preparing for tests or exams. Lessons can also be tailored to specific topics that the student would like extra help with.
I am currently studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education (Honors) and Bachelor of Science at Monash University, with a focus on Mathematics and the goal of becoming a secondary Mathematics teacher. I also have classroom experience through my teaching placement at Brighton Secondary College and previous one-to-one tutoring experience.
My lessons are suitable for Years 7–10 Mathematics, VCE General Mathematics and VCE Mathematical Methods. Whether you want to strengthen your foundations, catch up on difficult topics, prepare for assessments, or challenge yourself further, I aim to provide a patient and supportive environment where you can become more confident in maths.
