About Thomas
My name is Thomas Burns Scully. I am a very tall, British-born teaching-artist who was raised in the Middle East and have now lived and worked in New York nearly half my life. A bit of a polymath, I act, write, and play music, all professionally.
As an actor: I am a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts who is currently Off-Broadway in "The Jury Experience", have appeared in beloved TV sitcom Broad City, and was a key player in the Golden Muse Award winning immersive John Wick show "Welcome to the Continental" with Fever.
As a writer: I penned the multi-award winning Off-Broadway play "Dorothy of Nowhere", created Anheuser-Busch's "15 Minutes to Make History" experience that debuted at SXSW, and my interactive play "The Fall of Asa Packer" has been running regionally for three years.
As a musician: I composed the score for multiple Off-Broadway shows including the New York Times lauded "A Girl Without Wings", I am lead guitarist in indie band "Hurricane Holly", and I can play four instruments at an expert level (as well as others non expertly).
I have been professionally coaching in all of these fields for years and can provide references on request.
I have been told that the best thing about working with me is my wide frame of reference. I have an extremely broad knowledge base coupled with attention to detail and a good head for systems. As such, I often come up with solutions that others don't, and in the arts... you always need that person.

Anyone can be an artist as long as they can learn to be honest with themselves. It's that easy and that hard. But how do I get you there?
I take a holistic approach to performance and writing that always comes back to the same simple principle: how do we best tell the story? Through my conservatory background (AADA) I am well versed in most classical acting techniques (Meisner, Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, Chekhov), I have over a decade's experience working as a professional improviser and immersive actor, and I am an award-winning writer who likes to work character first. As such, I know there are a lot of ways to do this work and they can all function under the right circumstances.
My background is a mix of the conventional and the unconventional, and as such, so is my approach. I like to find out where you are starting from (wherever that is), ensure that your foundational toolkit is solid, and then we will devise a personalized process to get you to your artistic goals, whatever they may be. Some people need the rigid structure of exercises and repetition, others need more freeform work and discussion. Whatever the case, I want to help you develop the confidence and the tools to take on your next creative challenge.
I personally prefer working with early career professionals, but my adaptive approach can work at all levels and age groups. Beginner to expert, young to old, aspiring to seasoned, as long as you are willing to put in the effort, I have all the time in the world for you.
