About Maritsa
I am a 43 year old professional musician and music therapist. I have studied music and played professionally for 20+ years in South Africa, Europe and the US, and I completed my M.Mus in Music Therapy at the University of Pretoria in 2021. I currently lecture Percussion at the University of the Free State and have a handful of private flute students. I also coach marimba bands and do all the arrangements myself. I am the principal timpanist for the Free State Symphony Orchestra, and I sing in a small jazz ensemble with some colleagues. Music is my life and my medicine!

My teaching style is client centered and focused on your personal needs and preferences. Because of my music therapy training, I have a variety of tools that I bring into the classroom which is aimed at creating an innovative classroom experience. These include drumming to improve rhythmic skills, voicework for expression and song-writing. I teach in English and Afrikaans, and I cover everything from basic techniques to performance skills. No age limits.
