About Afton
Afton is a multidisciplinary music educator and opera journalist. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with a Professional Performance Certificate in Vocal Performance. She also studied collaborative piano and is a licensed Kindermusik instructor. In 2024, she was nominated for Best Music Teacher in Western North Carolina. Outside of teaching, Afton is a staff writer for OperaWire. She has reviewed performances at Carnegie Hall, Florida Grand Opera, Atlanta Opera, and in Germany. She has interviewed industry greats such as Thomas Hampson, Fatma Said, James Conlon, Melanie Diener, and Jonathan Tetelman.

- All students will study music literacy skills such as, rhythms, notation, and solfège, vocal anatomy, breathing techniques, and classical singing techniques.
- Each lesson will include a vocal warm-up, breathing exercises, and working through two songs.
- Students will work on assigned songs for at least two weeks. Typically, I choose one piece, and the student picks the other.
- I will help develop a tailored practice schedule that fits the student's learning style and schedule.
