About Jimmy
Hello, I'm Jimmy!
My love of classical piano music blossomed in my early teens and I've dedicated my life to refining the craft ever since. I studied music at GCSE and A level before going on to study at the University of Southampton with an emphasis on performance, where I graduated with second class honours. All the while under excellent instruction from a phenomenal professional concert pianist.
Since then I've moved away from my home in Portsmouth to achieve my Masters in Music, specialising in performance, at the University of Cardiff; where music education is a significant part of my degree.
Despite being a late starter, music is my life. I believe music is for everyone and there's no such thing as being too old, too late, or too slow. I also don't believe in "talent" as something you either have or haven't got; anyone and everyone can achieve their dreams if they have a receptive and responsive teacher.
Outside of music I have other academic interests in mathematics, physics, and history; B2 proficiency in Japanese; as well as a sporting career in judo and Brazilian jiu jitsu. Yet no aspect of my life is untouched by music!

With 15 years of musical training, including a Bachelor's in Music, I am an experienced musician and performer with a formal education in a range of musical subjects including teaching and tutoring.
I approach every student individually according to their aims, motivations, and needs.
My job is to share my knowledge, encourage independence, and expand your horizons while helping you achieve your goals.
I have a very patient teaching style, able to adapt to however you best learn and at whatever pace.
I teach performance intermingled with theory to produce a well-rounded set of complementary skills which will equip you to tackle any musical challenge.

Voice leading and counterpoint

Style and performance practice
History and musical thought

I teach through direct examples from real music, with minimal abstract exercises, so your diligence is rewarded swiftly.
