About Varun
I am currently an undergraduate student at Manhattan School of Music. I have taught privately and in group settings. I’ve taught drummers and full ensembles. I have also been nationally recognized as a composer and a soloist in jazz music.

I first assess the student to see where he/she/they is at. Then I accordingly tailor a plan that focuses on hand and foot facility and coordination. Then, I focus on the most important aspect: how to apply what you learn to a musical setting - playing other people’s/ band’s music.
I strongly believe that you are a successful musician if you can apply what you do in your lessons / practice sessions into playing music. If you can’t apply it musically, you are essentially aimlessly “hitting stuff” without a bigger purpose.
My lesson plans are also made based on the students’ goals and what they want to achieve by learning the drums; I work with the students to set short term and long term goals and give detailed homework - having them practice the way they should for optimal results.
