I attended a beginner level German classes taught by Falk for a year (three terms) and found him to be a very approachable and supportive teacher. His classes were engaging and enjoyable, providing plenty of opportunity to practise speaking the language with a range of activities from quick-fire questioning to peer interviews and role play. To keep things interesting, the mode of delivery was varied, including use of videos and class presentations to mix things up.

As a teacher myself, I was able to appreciate how effective Falk was at questioning, carefully curating examples which identified the level of understanding in the class as well as any lingering misconceptions. The lessons had a fluid feel, with Falk comfortably able to appropriately adapt the content as and when required, catering for all the different ability levels within the group. I enjoyed attending the classes and felt my German (particularly spoken) improved substantially over the year which is testament to Falk’s experience as an educator.

Falk supervised me for an Anthropological Theory and Methods paper. He was always very flexible and accommodating to any requests and needs I had, especially during exam term. The discussions led in supervisions were always extremely helpful to understanding the topic and clarifying any questions. Falk also prompted us to go beyond the parameters of the curriculum and was able to give unique insights from his own PhD research. He is very approachable and was always more than willing to help in any way we needed. The supervisions were generous with time, as we delved into the discussions in great detail. His feedback on essays was always thorough, providing annotations and written comments on essays, as well as going through these comments in the supervisions.
