  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

Although I was born into an Arabic-speaking family, my profound love for the language blossomed later in life. It was in the sixth grade when I first encountered the enchanting world of Arabic poetry. The moment I discovered Nizar Qabbani's verses, I was captivated. His words resonated deeply within me, revealing the beauty and depth of the language in ways I had never experienced before.

Each poem felt like a journey, rich with emotion and meaning, and I found myself falling in love with the rhythm and melody of Arabic. This love has continued to grow, shaping my identity and inspiring me to explore the nuances of the language even further. It’s not just a means of communication; it’s a profound connection to my culture and heritage.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

For the emblematic representative of Arabic literature, I would choose Ahmed Shawqi. Often referred to as the "Prince of Poets," Shawqi's works encapsulate the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world. His poetry is notable for its eloquent style and profound themes, exploring love, patriotism, and the beauty of nature. Shawqi's ability to weave intricate imagery with deep emotions makes his work timeless and relatable. He also wrote extensively about social issues and the struggles of his time, giving voice to the aspirations and concerns of the people. His influence on modern Arabic poetry is immense, inspiring countless writers and poets to embrace the beauty of the Arabic language. Choosing Shawqi as a representative of the language’s culture highlights the depth and artistic expression inherent in Arabic literature.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

    "Marhaba":

One word that particularly resonates with me in the Arabic language is "Marhaba" (مرحبا). This greeting can be beautifully divided into two parts: "مر" and "حبا." The first part, "مر," translates to "pass," while "حبا" means "with love." Therefore, when we say "Marhaba," it can be interpreted as "pass with love." This interpretation not only embodies the warmth and hospitality inherent in Arabic culture but also signifies a welcoming spirit. The word encapsulates the essence of connection and kindness, making it a heartfelt way to greet others. It reflects the values of friendship and community that are so central to our interactions.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Language is the soul's embrace, a bridge that spans hearts and cultures. Speaking Arabic is like savoring the rich flavors of a cherished dish, each word a spice that awakens memories and stories of ancestors. It allows us to dance with poetry, to feel the rhythm of love and longing in every phrase. In this melodic tongue, we find our identity intertwined with the past, a connection that breathes life into our present. As we share laughter and tears in our native words, we weave a tapestry of belonging, reminding us that language is not just a means of communication, but the very essence of who we are.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

In the journey of learning, every challenge becomes a stepping stone. The struggles I faced, like tangled threads, taught me resilience and creativity. Each obstacle transformed into a lesson, illuminating paths for my students.

I learned to embrace difficulties, turning them into opportunities for growth. Now, I simplify complex concepts, weaving them into engaging stories and relatable experiences. My aim is to inspire my students, showing them that every stumble can lead to a dance of discovery.

Through this shared journey, we explore the beauty in learning, where challenges become our guides, and every moment is a chance to grow together.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

One of my most impactful experiences in language learning occurred during my time volunteering as a language tutor. I worked with a group of students eager to learn English, and one student particularly struggled with verb conjugations and pronunciation.

Recognizing their challenges, I focused not only on teaching the language itself but also on helping them understand cultural contexts and expressions. As we practiced through interactive activities, I noticed their confidence growing, especially when they began to use the language in real-life situations.

This experience emphasized the importance of patience and adaptability in teaching. It also reinforced my belief that language is more than just words; it’s a bridge that connects diverse cultures and fosters meaningful relationships. Assisting others in their learning journey was as rewarding for me as mastering the language itself.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Traveling to Lebanon was a transformative experience that deepened my connection to the Arabic language and culture. In the heart of the Levant, I found myself surrounded by a rich tapestry of history, art, and warmth. Each bustling street and vibrant market echoed with the sounds of Levantine Arabic, making every interaction a chance to practice and learn.

One unforgettable moment was sharing a meal with a local family. Their hospitality enveloped me, and as we laughed and exchanged stories, I felt the true essence of the language come alive. It wasn’t just about speaking; it was about connecting with the heart of the culture where Arabic was born.

This journey taught me that language is a living, breathing thing—rooted in the stories and traditions of its people. Lebanon’s rich heritage inspired me to embrace my language learning with passion, reminding me that every word carries the weight of a shared history.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

As an ambassador for the Arabic language, my heart beats with the rhythm of curiosity and connection. I turn challenges into stepping stones, guiding my students to embrace the beauty of their journey. Each lesson is a shared adventure, where cultural stories weave through our conversations, bringing the language to life. I cherish the unique spark in each student, adapting my approach to nurture their individual strengths and dreams. In our classroom, I cultivate a warm, inclusive space where voices can rise and stories can flourish. My own love for learning fuels my passion, reminding me that we grow together, hand in hand. Ultimately, I aim to ignite a flame of appreciation for Arabic, connecting my students not just to words, but to a rich tapestry of culture and humanity.
