About Phineas
Phineas Davenport is a working jazz pianist in NYC. He graduated 2023 from The New School with a degree in jazz performance. He currently runs several groups including a jazz quartet and a jazz rock septet. Over the course of his studies, Phineas has learned from some of the greats including Glenn Zaleski, Adam Holzman, and Larry Goldings. In NYC, he performs regularly as part of his trio and as a solo pianist.

In our lessons together, we can focus on anything from basic musical theory and keyboard work to transcriptions and analyses of some of the greats of jazz. I will make sure you have a strong musical structure to be prepared for anything. For more advanced players, we can focus on any aspect of your playing, whether it be tone, touch, or lines and voicings.

Perfect! I’ve been practicing with Phineas for a handful of lessons now and he is a great teacher. He’s super patient and teaches you the basics/classical piano knowledge first. Also I like that he does in person classes bc it personally makes it easier to learn.
Perfect! I've been working with Phineas for almost a year now, and I'm so grateful to have found a teacher as welcoming and knowledgeable as him. Phineas is an excellent player and an even better instructor who meets you right where you're at while still pushing you to get better. I couldn't recommend him enough!
Perfect! Phineas is a strong communicator. He was patient, knowledgable, and focused on my specific piano goals. I only know some piano before from books, lessons with Phineas helped me grow my skills greatly.

Gave me good instruction on foundations
Learning from Phineas is great! His patience and encouragement create a supportive learning environment. Being a beginner piano learner, I picked the right instructor to help me learn.
Phineas is a great instructor! On our first lesson he asked me what I was looking for and delivered! He is great at explaining the theory behind the techniques he teaches. He is patient and enthusiastic. Definitely a wonderful piano teacher!
Phineas is an incredible teacher who is both passionate about music and passionate about teaching. Taking a lesson with him feels more like a collaboration where his guidance is always based on my needs. Anyone looking for a relaxed lesson environment that doesn't sacrifice attention to detail should definitely give Phineas a call.
