About Alana
I am a multi-instrumentalist and music composition major at NYU, specializing in music for visual media. I first got hooked on music at 4 years old, when I started taking piano lessons, then picked up cello at 9 and guitar at 13. I studied piano primarily through the Suzuki method, which emphasizes the importance of listening skills. My classical training has given me solid technical ability, practice techniques, and music theory knowledge.
With over 15 years of experience playing as a solo instrumentalist and in orchestras, chamber groups, and bands, as well as my work in music composition and production, I am excited to share my passion and meet students wherever they are on their music journey.

The best progress comes with genuine engagement. Learning piano is not just about memorizing notes on a page, but a matter of connecting to the music.
I come from a varied musical background, so I am well equipped to tailor repertoire and teaching style to students' needs. I am Suzuki trained and recognize the importance of listening and ear training; classically trained with an understanding of careful practice, precision, and technique; a modern keyboardist who values adaptability and fluidity of genre; and above all, I was and am a music student, so I know how vital it is to connect with both your teacher and the material at hand.
As a piano teacher, I am open to working with students of all ages, and am dedicated to finding unique approaches that work best for each student.
