About Jennifer
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught oboe and music theory at the London Oratory School (a combined primary and secondary) for the past ten years. I am also a member of the orchestra of the English National Ballet! Besides this I make frequent appearances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, various BBC Orchestras and I sometimes play for the West End musical Wicked.

I have an up-to-date CRB.

I'm looking forward to hearing from any prospective new students, from young complete beginners to adults re-visiting a childhood hobby!
With young children I like to play tunes they are already familiar with, both by ear and from written music. This makes them more confident about reading musical notation independently. When teaching adults I am guided by their taste in music- it’s great to explore repertoire together.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach oboe and recorder, and am also happy to help students going for Grade 5 Theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Masters degree from the Royal College of Music. Before that I studied for my undergraduate degree in the small university town of Trossingen, in the south of Germany.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 for a half hour lesson and £40 for one hour.
- Where do you teach?
I can travel to students’ homes in Croydon, Beckenham and surrounding areas or teach in my own home in South Norwood.
- When are you available?
I am generally available earlier in the week in the evening and on weekend mornings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have ten years of experience at a primary and secondary school combined, and I currently have two adult students.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I think the ABRSM exams can be good indicators of progress, and it’s always exciting to have a challenge to aim for.

I learnt to play the oboe as an adult from Jenny. She was a very able and committed oboe teacher who always tried to accommodate to my limited available time for lessons. As well as playing the oboe, I learnt music theory from her. Lessons with Jenny inspired my continuing passion for classical music!
