About Bruno

Before speaking the way I teach, I would like to comment on two ways you should be careful when trying to start learning to play the piano.

The first way would be with some mobile or computer app. Usually the focus of these apps is on getting the sequence and duration of the notes that are shown on the screen right.

A novice student does not notice the quality of his sound (it can create bad habits, which are difficult to correct later) and he also tends to neglect the posture of the body and hand, which can cause complications for the body.

In order to have a good and healthy start on the instrument it is necessary to pay attention to several things, and with apps we tend to focus only on playing the notes indicated on the screen.

The other way you should be careful is with more traditional methods that focus on learning to read.

First the teacher or the method teaches you the basics of musical reading, gives you a score and asks you to start playing.

The problem with learning like this is that learning music is very similar to learning a new language, and do you know what types of people have the easiest time learning a new language?

The children

Any child, in one way or another, ends up learning to speak their parents' language. And I guarantee you, most of them don't learn to read before they speak.

There is no point in learning to read music in the first lessons.

We must imitate the way children learn their parents' language.

How does a child learn their parents' language?

First listening,

Then, trying to repeat,

Receiving ongoing support from parents,

Trying to imitate every day,

Later, when he or she masters the spoken language, he learns to read,

And then study grammar.

To learn music is very similar:

At the beginning we should start listening to good music,

Then we try to repeat what we hear,

Receiving support from our peers,

We train every day,

When we have mastered good posture and can produce a good sound, we start to learn to read,

Later we will study music theory.

The Suzuki method tries to follow this logic, with a sequence of songs that were designed to teach you step by step to learn to play the piano in your time and in your rhythm.

Now, knowing this information you can do 3 things.

The first is to ignore it all, get on with your life and keep doing what you are doing.

The second is to try to walk this path alone, watch videos on YouTube, buy the books and try to learn, going through all the difficulties of the road without assistance.

Or you can call me, take an experimental class, at no cost, at no risk, to test the way of teaching, to learn to play the piano.

I look forward to our experimental class. ;)

Hello, my name is Bruno Palmieri. I think I must be a little bit like you, because I didn't start playing the piano since my childhood.

It was in 2012 that I started my studies. On that date I was taking the Aerospace Engineering course at UFMG.

I took the entrance exam thinking about having a reasonable job and the possibility of earning a good salary.

It was in the second semester of 2010 that I started to graduate and because I was one of the best students in my high school class, I thought the whole course would be very smooth, and because of that I ended up not taking the beginning of the undergraduate course seriously.

This attitude of mine led me to accumulate several failures, and this was undermining my self-esteem and motivation to end my studies.

It seems a little cliché, but in the second half of 2012 I decided that I wanted to change, I was tired of being a bad student.

I realized that the course had a very heavy workload for me, I decided to reduce the number of subjects I would take per semester, even if it took more time to graduate.

I also went back to paying attention to my health and fitness. After school I started hiking.

Finally, I thought about starting a hobby, an activity that would do me good. I've always loved music, especially the style of heavy metal, and one of my favorite bands was Nightwish.

A great friend of mine called Lucas (who played guitar very well) always commented to me that it was very difficult to find keyboard players to play the songs of the group.

That's when I decided to start studying the piano, so I could play the keyboard with him and form a tribute band to Nightwish.

Unfortunately our band ended up not working.

But my life has totally changed.

The walks soon became races, which later went to martial arts training, more specifically Kung Fu there at the UFMG Rectory square.

I managed to graduate from the Aerospace Engineering course.

I owe a lot of these things to the time I spent playing the piano. I felt really relaxed in the moments I studied, I also had a great sense of accomplishment in each new song that I learned.

And today I teach to try to pass these feelings on to people.

I live here in Brazil, and I usually charge 55 Brazilian Reais per class, but I prefer to receive 220 reais at the beginning or end of the month.

In US dollars this would be around 10 dollars an hour, or 40 dollars a month.
