About Tim
I am a second year Maths & Stats student at Oxford University and achieved A*s at A Level in Maths and Further Maths with 99% and 95% averages respectively. I have 4 years of experience in tutoring, from Yr6 SATS to Oxbridge admissions prep. I privately tutor individuals, I teach/prep the high achieving students at my old school for MAT/STEP and I am an Oxford mentor for the FMSP Problem Solving Matters course. Additionally, I am Enhanced DBS checked and have lots of experience tutoring students with specific learning disabilities - I used to help in the Special Educational Needs department at my old school. I am also dyslexic/dyspraxic myself so I appreciate the need for patience and the importance to work on the thought process for approaching problems.

My aims as a tutor are to provide guidance, intuition, fill in gaps in a student's knowledge, help them build confidence and help them refine their thought process towards problems.
(I tutor over Skype using a drawing tablet, sharing my screen so the student can see everything I write/draw. The student will need to point their camera to the paper they write on, or share their screen if they are using a tablet.)
New content:
I give a general introduction to the topic (to help give intuition) and then guide the student through the content. I challenge them as much as possible as we go and ask them to explain back to me what they learn. This lets me correct any misunderstands and fill in any gaps.
Problems:
I ask the student to explain the problem, the content/techniques they think it covers, how they intend to initially approach the problem and any back up plans they have. I provide adjustments where necessary to their thinking. Going through the problem I give hints where necessary and at the end, once solved, we go through a full review of what we have done and why.
Homework:
I either
a) set appropriate questions relevant to the content covered in the lesson or
b) set material to prepare the student for the following lesson.
