About Amy
I am an Oxford University graduate whose focus is on English Literature and Language tutoring.
student from London currently studying at Oxford University. I have always loved English with a particular passion for Shakespeare and poetry. I have found it a very rewarding experience helping students gain not just a skill but a genuine interest and enjoyment in these areas that are often sources of struggle for the preparing 11+ English student and parent. I have a lot of experience tutoring in these areas, and have recently decided to offer these sessions to students through this agency.
I achieved 11 A*s at GCSE, including English Literature and Language, and then went on to study English at A level, and then complete a human geography degree at Oxford University where I specialised in the impact of famous literary texts upon the fabric of cities.
I really love bringing students' imagination out to ensure they have extended, detaiked and perceptive quotes to bring up in analysis
I send follow up notes and analysis, I mark written work and provide detailed feedback - will cover the areas needed for the student to see growth.
I am a very friendly and warm tutor with much flexibility for my availability and hours. I look forward to helping 11+ students become less anxious about the prospect of unseen poetry and Shakespeare!

These lessons provide 11+ students with a very valuable exposure to and experience with Shakespearean texts and poetry. Students often struggle with how to approach these kinds of texts and complete comprehensions for them at this level and parents often are seeking some guidance with Shakespeare in particular.
Shakespeare plays:
My lessons will help students understand a variety of Shakespeare plays in an engaging and digestible way. Students will form crucial understanding of the general plot lines, themes and contexts of the different plays, whilst learning the difficult but very important skill of analysis.
Prior to each session I will send over a comprehension for an extract I have selected from a Shakespeare play. I provide glossaries and play introductions to help the students approach the comprehension questions which I design for the 11+ level. In the session we first begin with a focus on the given Shakespeare play, ensuring understanding of the genres of drama/tragedy/comedy and it’s general plot and themes.
We then work through the extract and its comprehension questions, along with audible performances of the text to help the student hear Shakespeare text with the intonation and emotion brought by actors.
A variety of literary techniques will be identified and taught to the student through the sessions, from imagery to sound techniques and form. Students gain much confidence and enjoyment in the skill of analysis and their ability to know about and discuss Shakespearean works.
Poetry:
My lessons provide students with the exposure and experience approaching poetry from a variety of different genres including contemporary, Romanticist, Victorian as well as the Shakespearean sonnet. I help students find a love in forming their own perceptive ideas when met with a poem, and teach them a variety of literary techniques to identify and analyse from imagery to sound and form.
Prior to each session, I will send over the poem along with some comprehension questions designed for the 11+ level and some guidance of the poetry genre. In the session, we will work through the analysis of the poem and its comprehension questions, focusing on the student’s ability to form ideas and identify and link literary techniques to these ideas.

£30/hr rate, which includes a personalised hour of tutoring with a customized PowerPoint to enhance visual engagement and high-level note-taking. Additionally, I provide PDF documents of analysed texts and poems from each session, along with typed notes summarising the content covered to support review and revision.
