About Mary
I am a 22 year old university student, in my final year of a bachelor of Communications degree majoring in Journalism and minoring in Communication for Social Change. I am passionate about writing, reading, literature and learning being a positive and constructive part of life.
I love writing and I have always intended on making it a part of my career. I have brief experience interning at NZ Herald where I had to ensure my spelling, grammar and style were up to a high standard.
During college I enjoyed essay writing and speech writing. I became confident in understanding how to structure essays, draw the reader in and how to analyse different texts. This enjoyment carried through to University.
Outside of education I enjoying being outdoors swimming and hiking, travelling and spending time with my family.

My approach is tailored to the individual needs and learning styles of each student, adaptable, patient and with a focus of getting a real understanding of techniques and styles.
I believe in engaging students actively in the learning process to promote deeper understanding. I think it is important for students to understand WHY certain aspects of literature are the way they are. That way students are more likely to become familiar with and fond of these things, because it makes sense to them, rather than following the guidelines just because you 'have' to.
I provide constructive, positive feedback to help students identify areas of improvement and build upon their strengths.
I believe learning, and especially learning English/literature can and should be fun!
