About Cynthia
After practicing law for ten years, I became an inner-city English teacher. I first developed a passion for helping high school students with the literacy skills to succeed in college. When I realized that students of all ages were missing the fundamental skills and knowledge they needed to be effective readers and writers, I took a deep dive into the resources available to teachers. I couldn't find any that weren't horribly boring and terribly confusing, so I created my own.

The English language is so complex and can be very confusing! I break those complexities down into simple and engaging lessons that develop a deep understanding about sentence structure. Whether you speak English as your first language or are an English language learner, it is important to understand the underlying structure of the language and how words work within that structure.
As an attorney, I developed an appreciation for the power of harnessing words for persuasive purposes. I am passionate about literacy and the role it plays in our civil society.
I have worked with students of all ages (from 5 to AP English students and adults) and have developed an entire curriculum that uses pattern recognition, sentence-level graphic organizers, and color coding systems. Young learners also adore getting to know the flock of Word Birds; each bird represents a part of speech, and they all have different jobs within the structure of a sentence.
