About Oliver
Hello, my name is Oliver! I am a dedicated and patient tutor who specializes in mathematics, with additional experience in political science, social studies, and criminal justice. I hold a master’s degree in crime analysis, a program that required advanced statistical training, which has strengthened both my mathematical background and my ability to explain complex ideas clearly. What truly drives me as a tutor is helping students gain confidence. I understand what it feels like to struggle with math—when I was younger, it was my least favorite subject. Everything changed when a professor encouraged me and showed me that I was capable of succeeding. That turning point inspired me to not only master the subject but also to help others see that math doesn’t have to be overwhelming. As a tutor, I bring professionalism, patience, and enthusiasm to every lesson. I believe that with the right guidance and encouragement, any student can grow their skills and even enjoy the process of learning. As a tutor, I focus on making math less intimidating and more approachable. I believe that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to their individual needs—whether that means breaking concepts into smaller steps, using real-world examples, or practicing through guided problem-solving.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of what the student already understands, followed by introducing new material in a way that connects to their prior knowledge. We spend time working through examples together, and I always leave room for questions and independent practice.
What sets me apart is that I know firsthand what it’s like to struggle with math—I used to dislike it myself until a great professor helped me see my potential. That experience drives me to create a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and grow.
