About Mya
I’m a dedicated math tutor with a Bachelor of Science degree and several years of experience as an educator, and I love helping students transform confusion into confidence. Teaching has always been a natural part of my life. I’ve worked with learners of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities, and I tailor every lesson to fit each student’s unique way of understanding math. Outside of tutoring, I’m someone who genuinely enjoys learning and exploring new things. I love spending time outdoors, reading, and finding small ways to stay curious every day. I bring that same curiosity and calm energy into my sessions. Students often tell me I make math feel less stressful because I’m patient, I explain things clearly, and I never rush their learning process. My goal is to create a space where you feel supported, capable, and encouraged to ask questions. When you work with me, you’re getting a tutor who is prepared, professional, and genuinely invested in your success, but also someone who understands real life, real challenges, and the importance of small wins along the way.

My Tutoring Approach & How I Share Knowledge Teaching Methods & Techniques As a math tutor, my approach is built on clarity, patience, and practical understanding. I focus on helping students not only learn the steps but also understand why those steps work. My methods include: Breaking down complex topics into simple, manageable pieces Modeling problem-solving techniques and gradually transitioning responsibility to the student Using real-world examples to build intuition and make abstract concepts relatable Active questioning to encourage critical thinking and concept mastery Customized instruction based on each student’s learning style, pace, and goals Confidence-building strategies, because mindset plays a huge role in math success My goal is for students to leave each session with greater understanding, independence, and confidence. A Typical Lesson Plan 1. Warm-up (5 minutes) Quick review problems or a conversation about what the student has been working on. This reactivates prior knowledge and helps me assess where to focus. 2. Concept Instruction (10–20 minutes) I explain the concept with visual aids, examples, or guided notes. I adapt explanations to match the student’s learning style (visual, verbal, hands-on, step-by-step). 3. Guided Practice (15–20 minutes) We work through problems together. I ask questions that help the student think aloud and internalize each step. 4. Independent Practice (10–15 minutes) The student works through problems independently while I observe, provide feedback, and help correct errors in real time. 5. Wrap up & Next Steps (5 minutes) We summarize what was learned, identify any remaining areas of confusion, and create a plan for the next session or homework. This structure keeps lessons organized, productive, and aligned with the student's goals. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor Strong academic foundation: I hold a Bachelor of Science, which gives me both depth and breadth in math-based problem solving. Experienced educator: I have been an educator before, so I understand curriculum standards, classroom expectations, learning differences, and how to keep students engaged. Patient, encouraging teaching style: I value patience and meeting students where they are. Many students come to me saying they “aren’t good at math,” and I specialize in helping them rebuild confidence. Ability to simplify and communicate clearly: I’m skilled at explaining concepts in multiple ways until it truly clicks. Student-centered focus: Every lesson is tailored to the student’s goals, whether that’s catching up, getting ahead, preparing for exams, or building long-term math skills. My mission is not just to teach math but to help students feel capable and empowered. Who My Lessons Are For I tutor students at a variety of levels, particularly: Middle School Math (6th–8th grade) Students who need extra support, including students who benefit from more personalized instruction
