About Shona
My name is Shona, I am a mum of 2 young girls, and I’m passionate about helping young people grow in confidence with their English skills. I know how challenging GCSEs can feel, and my goal is to make learning supportive, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s needs. I decided to become a tutor because I genuinely enjoy seeing students succeed — not just in their grades, but in their confidence and enjoyment of the subject. With patience and a positive approach, I aim to show every student that they can achieve their goals with the right guidance. For me, teaching isn’t just about exams — it’s about helping students find their voice, express themselves more clearly, and realise their full potential.

I provide personalised English tutoring for students in Years 7–11, with a strong focus on building confidence and preparing for GCSE success. Each lesson is adapted to the student’s needs, whether that’s improving essay structure, analysing literature, boosting creative writing, or developing exam techniques. My Approach I use a supportive and structured teaching style that helps students break down complex topics into manageable steps. My sessions are interactive and encouraging, designed to help learners not only improve their grades but also enjoy the subject more. Lesson Length Lessons are flexible and can be tailored to what works best for the student – typically around an hour, but longer or shorter sessions are available depending on needs. Experience & Qualifications With a strong background in English and experience supporting learners of different abilities, I create lessons that are both effective and approachable. My goal is to help students feel confident, motivated, and ready for their exams. Who It’s For My lessons are ideal for secondary school students in Years 7–11 who want extra support in English, whether that’s catching up, keeping up, or pushing ahead for top grades.
