• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My interest in pharmacy developed quite naturally from a curiosity about how medicines work and their impact on patient health. During my university years, I realised how essential pharmacists are in bridging the gap between science and people, translating complex pharmacological concepts into practical patient care.
  Tutoring stemmed from that same drive to help others understand. I started mentoring fellow students and found genuine satisfaction in seeing someone’s confidence grow once a difficult topic finally made sense. That’s what led me to formalise my tutoring. I wanted to make complex pharmaceutical concepts accessible, structured, and engaging for learners at any level.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I teach pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, covering everything from pharmacology and pharmaceutics to clinical reasoning, law, ethics, and calculations aligned with the GPhC assessment framework.
  I particularly enjoy teaching pharmacology, understanding drug mechanisms, interactions, and how that translates into patient outcomes. It’s fascinating to connect theory with real-world clinical decision-making.
  If there’s a topic I like slightly less, it’s the more administrative or overly memorisation-heavy areas such as legislation tables, though even then, I enjoy turning that kind of content into logical frameworks rather than rote learning.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Yes, one of my university lecturers profoundly influenced how I approach teaching. They had a unique way of breaking down even the densest pharmacokinetics into stories and analogies that stuck. Their approach taught me that clarity and enthusiasm are as vital as knowledge.
  Their style shaped my own. I now focus on teaching in a way that’s structured yet conversational, so students don’t just memorise, but truly understand and apply their knowledge.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  A good tutor must have:
  
  Clarity: the ability to simplify complex information without oversimplifying it.
  
  Adaptability: every student learns differently, so the teaching approach must fit the learner.
  
  Empathy: understanding a student’s frustrations and helping them overcome self-doubt.
  
  Structure and depth: especially in a technical subject like pharmacy, lessons must build logically from fundamentals to advanced applications.
  
  Patience and communication: to maintain engagement and make students feel supported throughout their learning journey.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  During my early days working in a hospital dispensary, I once caught a potential drug interaction between a patient’s inpatient medication and a newly prescribed one. When I flagged it to the pharmacist, they explained the clinical reasoning behind adjusting the regimen. That moment solidified everything I’d studied. It showed me how theoretical knowledge directly safeguards patients.
  I now use that experience as a teaching example. Pharmacy isn’t just about knowing drugs; it’s about applying that knowledge responsibly and confidently in practice.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  The biggest challenge is managing the sheer breadth of knowledge expected of pharmacists, spanning chemistry, biology, clinical reasoning, and law. Early on, I struggled with integrating those domains rather than treating them as separate silos.
  That challenge, however, became a strength. My tutoring method now focuses on building links between disciplines, showing students how pharmacokinetics, clinical use, and safety come together in real decision-making.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I’m passionate about education as empowerment, both in pharmacy and in general. Teaching allows me to contribute to future professionals’ growth, helping them achieve competence and confidence.
  Beyond that, I’m also passionate about public health and clinical development, and I plan to pursue Independent Prescribing and a PhD to advance evidence-based practice and education within the sector.
