About Tara
Hi, I'm Tara McElhinney, a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) at the University of Manchester, where I work in scientific research with a focus on advanced materials and analytical techniques. My academic journey has given me a strong foundation in physics, materials science, and data analysis, and I've always enjoyed sharing that knowledge with others.
Throughout my studies and research career, I've had the opportunity to support and mentor students at different stages of their education. Seeing someone gain confidence in a topic they once found challenging is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. I know that everyone learns differently, so I enjoy adapting my explanations and teaching style to suit each individual student.
I want to teach because I believe education should be accessible, engaging, and empowering. Whether you're preparing for exams, tackling difficult coursework, or simply want to strengthen your understanding of a subject, my goal is to help you develop the skills and confidence to succeed independently.
Beyond improving grades, I hope to inspire curiosity and a genuine appreciation for science. I strive to create a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and celebrating their progress. No matter your starting point, I'll work with you to help you achieve your goals and enjoy the learning process along the way.

My teaching style is friendly, patient, and tailored to each student's individual needs. I believe the best learning happens when students feel comfortable asking questions and understand *why* something works, rather than simply memorising answers.
Whether you're preparing for GCSEs, A-levels, university exams, or need support with coursework, I adapt each lesson to your goals and learning style. I break down complex topics into clear, manageable steps, using real-world examples and plenty of opportunities to practise and build confidence.
As someone with extensive experience in scientific research and higher education, I can also help students develop valuable skills beyond the syllabus, including problem-solving, critical thinking, data analysis, and scientific writing.
My lessons are interactive, supportive, and focused on helping you make genuine progress at your own pace. Whether you're aiming to improve your grades, prepare for exams, or deepen your understanding of the subject, I'll work with you to build both your knowledge and confidence.
