About Benjamin
Until 2018 I was an academic in history at the University of Cambridge. I gained a PhD and was then a Research Fellow at Clare College, Cambridge.
While in academia I gained a lot of experience teaching undergraduate students one-on-one and in small groups, as part of the Cambridge 'supervision' or tutorial system. This involved talking a student through a subject by way of discussing an essay he or she had written--an approach that allowed students to learn more about the material and to improve how they wrote and argued.
I also delivered many undergraduate lectures and taught many seminars to larger groups of students. I also marked examinations and took part in the admissions process.
Teaching, and in particular one-to-one tutorials, was one of the aspects of my academic work I found most fulfilling. I am now training to be a barrister in London, but I am tutoring in part so as to continue doing this part of my earlier career.
