About Sean
PhD physics student researching machine learning applications to medical imaging. Im looking to teach individuals or groups in math, physics, astronomy and programming
During my bachelors/masters degree I would assist my peers in learning the content, it is from here that I learned the basics of tutoring. I also gained a lot of experience in "learning how to learn". By this I mean, finding out efficient ways to learn information/skills by aiming for understanding rather than memorizing.
During my degree I worked as a software engineer making web applications in dotnet core.
Therefore, I am comfortable with Programming from a data analytics and a web development point of view. I have used OOP and Functional programming languages including: C#, Java, Python, Julialang, Fortran 97, MATLAB and Octave.

My teaching method involves repeating the following steps:
- Introduce content to the student
- Example questions (supervised)
- Reflection; understanding why the solution worked
- Example questions (unsupervised)
Each time we iterate through this process we aim to increase the students confidence by letting them answer more questions with less supervision and more critical reflection.
We have a particular emphasis on:
- Reading questions thoroughly
- Practising understanding content (Not memorisation)
- Learning to mark work using an exam marking scheme
