About Emma
I am 3rd year PhD student (comparative psychology) at Durham University, England. My research is focused on the communication development of great apes and how this can inform our knowledge surrounding the evolutionary drivers of human language.
Previous to my PhD I graduated with a 1st class BSc Zoology from Queens University Belfast and with high distinction in a MSc Biological Anthropology from the Australian National University, Canberra Australia. In between my degrees I have worked abroad with wild and captive primates in Indonesia, Kenya and Malaysia while I searched for funding to continue studying.
My motivation to help young academics with their scientific writing or funding applications is because, I have been there! It is a competitive world and it can be intimidating to ask for help. I would love to help anyone struggling with what they are doing wrong or what to do next because I know exactly how you are feeling:)

Over the last few years, I have had a lot of opportunity to provide feedback to undergraduate students on pieces of scientific writing they have submitted for their degree courses. During this time, I have loved helping students understand the most effect approach to essay and report writing including how best to approach, structure and present their work. I have been able to get students up two grade boundaries in one semester at one of the UKs top universities, something which I really enjoy!
I have also been successful in applying for studentships to cover the costs of my MSc and PhD, and now grant writing is a part of my regular academic life. I would be more than happy to help guide students who are searching for funding to prepare their applications if this is useful. have been able
