About Leonardo
During high school, I always liked physics and math, and since I was little, I had a passion for aviation. There was no more certain course for me than Aeronautical Mechanical Engineering, which I completed in 2022. During my degree, I had the opportunity to participate in two major special projects. The first was the Uirá-Aerodesign team project, which aims to develop a radio-controlled aircraft for the SAE Aerodesign competition, using a strong foundation in Engineering, not just foundation, but solid knowledge. There, I was a member of the flight dynamics, stability, and control areas, where I designed control surfaces and empennages, as well as doing some CAD drawings. It was there that I became intrigued by the area of regression of flight data. I wasn’t strong in that area, but that’s when I discovered a topic called aerodynamic parameter identification, which involves complex mathematics to regress data autonomously and optimize it to obtain real engineering aerodynamic parameters, the subject of my thesis, which took two years to complete with a lot of effort, passion, and study. Soon after, I participated in an entrepreneurship project called Free Pilot, where I was a scholarship holder. It was a project to develop a low-cost flight data capture system using Arduino, Pixhawk, and very affordable sensors. The project was a success, and the data captured during the flight was used for the regression in my thesis. After college, I worked at Aerofoundry for 2 years as a designer in the drone field (as expected), focusing on areas I had been involved in before but now including aerodynamics, performance, and CFD analysis. My last job deviated a little from the drone scope, and I worked in an aircraft maintenance company, primarily in the technical control area of maintenance, along with the knowledge gained in regulations related to the field. Today, I’m here trying to help others with affordable knowledge, promoting learning.
