About Galen
I began my musical journey with a fascination for the piano’s expressive range, eventually earning a B.Mus in Piano Performance and an M.M in Piano Pedagogy. Over 9 years, I have taught students of all ages, helping them develop technique, confidence, and expressive artistry. My teaching approach emphasizes patience, individualized guidance, and a balance of technical and creative development. I focus on creating a supportive learning environment where students can explore music at their own pace, receive clear instruction, and gain the confidence to perform. Lessons combine exercises, repertoire study, and interpretive guidance to ensure students grow holistically as musicians. Outside teaching, I continue performing, composing, and studying music across genres to keep lessons engaging and relevant. Teaching piano is deeply fulfilling because it allows me to help students discover their musical voice and develop confidence, skill, and joy through music.

Piano learning becomes rewarding when students experience steady growth through structured, engaging instruction. My lessons focus on technique, finger coordination, sight-reading, musical phrasing, and creative interpretation. I combine exercises, repertoire practice, and performance preparation to develop both technical skill and expressive musicality. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals and abilities, providing challenges that inspire confidence and enjoyment while preventing frustration or overwhelm.
Beginners focus on posture, hand positioning, simple scales, basic melodies, and rhythm exercises to build a solid foundation. Intermediate students develop more complex chord structures, sight-reading, dynamic control, and stylistic understanding. Advanced learners refine interpretation, phrasing, technical precision, performance readiness, and improvisational skill. Every session includes guidance, constructive feedback, and exercises designed to enhance mastery progressively.
The goal of my piano lessons is to nurture confident, expressive musicians capable of interpreting and performing a wide range of repertoire. Students gain technical skill, musical understanding, and personal artistic expression. I strive to create lessons that are enjoyable, motivating, and transformative, encouraging lifelong engagement with the instrument.
